Overview
The Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging at the University of California, San Francisco invites you to attend its annual Body Imaging on the Big Island course on January 19-24, 2025. The course will present a comprehensive review of clinically relevant topics in thoracic and abdominopelvic imaging, with special attention to imaging findings, reporting and management guidelines, and multimodality evaluation.
Presentations will review indications that are commonly seen in general practice and will highlight state-of-the-art imaging approaches. Additional special sessions will be interactive, with real-time review of unknown cases by faculty and attendees.
Thoracic topics will include emergent conditions such as pulmonary embolism, acute aortic syndrome, and hemoptysis, as well as a variety of diffuse lung diseases, thoracic malignancies, and incidental findings commonly encountered on thoracic imaging studies.
Abdominopelvic topics to be addressed include masses and malignancies of all major organs, emergent gastrointestinal conditions, and multimodality evaluation of transplant donors and recipients. Additional sessions will highlight procedures commonly performed by body radiologists, and the imaging evaluation of post-procedural complications.

- Identify various forms of bowel ischemia and understand key pathophysiology that contributes to imaging appearance.
- Apply appropriate imaging protocols to the MRI evaluation of rectal and prostate cancer, and identify key disease features permitting accurate diagnosis and staging.
- Understand the importance of incidental findings in thoracic imaging studies, and recommend appropriate next diagnostic or management steps
- Detect post-procedural complications that may arise in the abdomen and pelvis, and report them in a manner most helpful for further patient management.
- Identify and give an appropriate differential diagnosis for lesions in the kidneys, pancreas, spleen, liver, and other organ systems.
- Sonographically assess the post-transplant liver, kidney, and pancreas, and accurately characterize common vascular and parenchymal complications.
- Characterize pulmonary nodules, understand potential underlying etiologies, and recommend appropriate imaging surveillance and/or other patient management.
