Overview

This live course will include lectures, hands-on workshops, interactive question and answer sessions, that aim to provide an overview of pediatric musculoskeletal conditions and sports-related injuries that are commonly encountered by pediatric healthcare providers. This course aims to provide a comprehensive learning experience that will improve providers’ knowledge, skills, and competence in managing specific conditions. In addition, participants can look forward to learning about our multidisciplinary approach to managing pediatric musculoskeletal and sports-related conditions through evidence-based practices.

Target Audience
This conference is tailored towards healthcare providers who care for children and adolescents, including primary care physicians (pediatricians or family physicians), advanced practice providers (physician assistants or nurse practitioners), nurses, physical or occupational therapists, and athletic trainers.

Objectives

  1. Identify musculoskeletal conditions (eg. lower limb differences, foot deformity, spine deformity, inflammatory and infectious processes) that are unique to the pediatric population.
  2. Review multidisciplinary approach to managing pediatric patients with neuromuscular conditions (non-operative options and surgical indications for spasticity management).
  3. Discuss the comprehensive management and interdisciplinary team approach for medical and musculoskeletal sports-related injuries in young athletes.
  4. Perform focused MSK physical exam and demonstrate rehabilitation exercises for return to sports and physical activities.
  5. Discuss indications for diagnostic and therapeutic modalities and clinical features that should prompt referral to specialists.
