Overview

Presentations will review indications that are commonly seen in general practice and will highlight state-of-the-art imaging approaches. Additional special sessions will be interactive, with real-time review of unknown cases by faculty and attendees as well as dedicated time for Q&A with all faculty members.

Abdominopelvic topics to be addressed include masses and malignancies of all major organs, emergent gastrointestinal and genitourinary conditions. Additional sessions will highlight procedures commonly performed by body radiologists, and the imaging evaluation of post-procedural complications. In addition, there will be sessions dedicated to specific PET imaging findings as well as pitfalls of PET/CT.

Cardiothoracic topics will include emergent conditions such as pulmonary embolism, acute aortic syndrome, and coronary artery disease, as well as a variety of diffuse lung diseases, thoracic malignancies, and incidental findings commonly encountered on thoracic imaging studies.

Objectives

The purpose of this course is to increase competence and improve clinician practice in radiology. We specifically anticipate improvements in skills and strategies to:

  • Assess a practical approach to urgent imaging indications such as pulmonary embolism, aortic dissection, and bowel ischemia
  • Identify the key imaging findings and patterns of a variety of diffuse lung diseases
  • Review an imaging approach to thoracic and abdominal malignancies
  • Understand the significance of incidental imaging findings and what steps should be undertaken after their identification
  • Review and implement updated guidelines on use and safety of both CT and MRI contrast agents
  • Recognize common pitfalls on FDG PET imaging
