Herman Johannesmeyer, Pharm.D., BCPS received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Arizona College of Pharmacy in Tucson, Arizona. He completed a two-year combined PGY-1/PGY-2 residency in pharmacotherapy at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock, Texas. He is a Health Sciences Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of California, Irvine (UCI) School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. He maintains an internal medicine clinical practice at UCI Medical Center where he rounds with a hospital medicine service team and precepting advanced pharmacy practice experience students and PGY-1 pharmacy practice residents.
Dr. Martin Torres, PharmD, FCSHP
Dr. Martin Torres received his PharmD degree from USC, completed a general medicine residency at LA County/USC Medical Center and began his career establishing an ICU satellite pharmacy and multiple clinical programs in a community hospital. After initially providing direct patient care for seven years, as a director of pharmacy for over 30 years he has had the opportunity to lead teams both in acute care and outpatient settings in developing patient services across multiple transitions of care. Dr. Torres is on faculty at the Southern California College of Optometry where he teaches the pharmacology curriculum for 1st and 2nd year Doctor of Optometry students and has precepted pharmacy students from numerous pharmacy schools in addition to UCI public health students. Dr. Torres is an active member of the California Society of Health-System Pharmacists (CSHP) previously serving on the Board of Directors and the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) as a member of the Committee on Affiliate Relations. Currently, Dr. Torres is a member of the UC Irvine Pharmacy leadership team where he serves as the Director of Quality, Safety, Education, and Research with administrative responsibilities for the Medication Safety Program, Pharmacy Residency Program, IPPE and APPE Programs, and Investigational Drug Service.

Katrina (Katie) Derry, PharmD, BCPS, BCCCP
Katrina (Katie) Derry, PharmD, BCPS, BCCCP is the Director for Acute Care Pharmacy Programs at University of California Health. Her primary responsibility is coordination clinical, operational, and financial efficiencies among pharmacy departments among University of California academic medical centers. Dr. Derry completed her Pharm.D. at the University of Minnesota in 2008 and her post-graduate training (PGY1 Pharmacy and PGY2 Critical Care Pharmacy) at UC San Diego Health. Following residency, Dr. Derry was an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy and Iowa City VA from 2010-2012. In 2012, Dr. Derry, transition to a Medication Policy Specialist at UC San Diego Health and maintained an active critical care pharmacy practice as well as the Residency Program Director for the PGY2 Critical Care Pharmacy residency. In 2022, Dr. Derry moved to the University of California Office of the President. Her primary research interests are anticoagulation reversal, pharmacotherapy of liver disease, and sedation and analgesia management, and medication use optimization. Dr. Derry has been an ASHP Residency Accreditation Guest Surveyor since 2016 and a member of the ASHP Commission on Credentialing since 2022. She was a member of the CAGOs group which was a group of COC members and lead surveyors who drafted and finalized the harmonized PGY1 CAGOs. She is also a member of the ASHP Section of Pharmacy Practice Leaders Value, Quality, and Compliance Advisory Group and the past member of various other ASHP advisory groups. She is a current ASHP Delegate for CHSP and member of the Vizient Pharmacy Network Pharmacy Practice Advancement and Research Committees the immediate past president and current treasurer of the SCCM Southern California Chapter.

Pharmacy Experiential Precepting in the Era of Artificial Intelligence (AI) 04/15/24
Ruixin (Ray) Shi, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Shi attended pharmacy school at University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He completed his PGY-1 and PGY-2 in emergency medicine at Intermountain Medical Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. He is now the senior emergency medicine clinical pharmacist at University of California Davis Medical Center, where he spends his time attending codes, implementing policies, exploring the world of AI, and precepting.
Sierra Young, PharmD, BCCCP
Dr. Young attended pharmacy school at University of California San Francisco. She completed her PGY-1 and PGY-2 in critical care at University of California Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, CA. She is now a senior critical care pharmacist at University of California Davis Medical Center, where she spends her time primarily in the burn unit, precepting and working on clinical research.

Effective Integration of Students in Clinical Practice Collaborative Approach to Achieve Win-Win for All 01/25/2024
Rachel Ryu, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Rachel Ryu received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Rhode Island College of Pharmacy (0–6 year PharmD program), and also attained a Spanish minor. She completed an ASHP-accredited PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency and subsequent ASHP-accredited PGY-2 Cardiology Pharmacy Residency at Loma Linda University Health, as well as obtained a concurrent teaching certificate. She is currently a pharmacist at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center providing transitions of care services. Previously, she was a full-time faculty member at Western University of Health Sciences, teaching didactics while maintaining a clinical practice site and precepting students. She was recognized for her teaching with the Teacher of the Year Award in 2023. She has served in diverse capacities at the university, state, and national levels, including holding various leadership positions with CSHP. She has published her research in several scientific journals, and continues to serve as a peer-reviewer and an invited editorial board member for various journals. She has delivered numerous invited presentations at scientific conferences—both locally and nationally. She is passionate and dedicated about delivering high quality care for her patients, serving as a role model for future pharmacists, and contributing to the realm of medicine and science through her research.

Dr. Sarah Cummins is the Opioid Stewardship Senior Pharmacist at the University of California Davis Medical Center. Dr. Cummins obtained her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Purdue University after earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biochemistry and Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology from Indiana University. Dr. Cummins completed her PGY1 residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and her PGY2 Emergency Medicine residency at UC Davis. Dr. Cummins actively serves on the Pharmacy Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee, Substance Use Disorder Committee, and Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee. Dr. Namba received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of California San Francisco. She completed a PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at the University of Washington, followed by a PGY2 Critical Care Residency at UC San Diego Health. She is currently an Associate Clinical Professor of Pharmacy and the Assistant Director of Interprofessional Education and Simulation at the University of California San Diego Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. She specializes in transitions of care for patients with advanced heart failure.
Since beginning her clinical practice, Dr. Namba has precepted over 150 students and residents, and served as the PGY2 Critical Care Residency director at UC San Diego Health. She is a past recipient of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacy New Preceptor Award. She has also been recognized with the Barbara and Paul Saltman Distinguished Teaching Award at UC San Diego and Student and Pharmacy Residency Preceptor of the Year awards at UC San Diego Health.

Dr. Chan received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from University of the Pacific’s Thomas J Long School of Pharmacy. She is a board-certified clinical pharmacist at Sutter Roseville Medical Center, specializing in critical care and primarily working in the medical ICU. Throughout her nine years of preceptor experience, she has been recognized for her work, including Preceptor of the Year for University of the Pacific’s Sacramento Region and Apples for Preceptor Award from UCSF. She is currently an Assistant Clinical Professor for UCSF and an Adjunct Professor for the University of Pacific, and serves as a primary preceptor for critical care APPE students from University of California San Francisco, University of the Pacific, and Touro University.

Dr. Hellier received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Drake University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.
