UCSF Health Transplant Service

Overview

At the 2025 UCSF Liver Symposium Meeting, our distinguished faculty from the UCSF Liver Transplant Services will present a comprehensive review and discuss the latest developments on recent advances in liver transplantation. We are expecting approximately 100 physicians to attend.

Objectives

  1. Apply Immunotherapy Strategies in Liver Transplantation: Integrate immunotherapy approaches as a bridge to liver transplant in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), enhancing treatment outcomes in this patient population.
  2. Improve Candidate Selection for Liver Transplant: Utilize updated guidelines and evidence to make more informed decisions about liver transplant candidate selection, particularly in cases of alcohol-associated liver disease, leading to better patient outcomes.
  3. Identify and Manage Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Liver Disease (MASLD): Recognize MASLD as an emerging condition, assess its clinical implications, and apply the latest management strategies, including its potential relationship with liver transplant.
  4. Leverage Artificial Intelligence in Cirrhosis Management: Implement AI tools to aid in the diagnosis and management of cirrhosis, improving the accuracy and efficiency of patient care, and streamlining clinical decision-making processes.
  5. Enhance Primary Biliary Cholangitis (PBC) Management: Apply updated treatment protocols and evidence-based practices for managing PBC, leading to better long-term management and patient outcomes.
  6. Evaluate and Implement Screening Strategies: Assess the need for routine screening in at-risk populations for liver diseases like MASLD and implement best practices for early detection and intervention based on the latest evidence.
  7. Improve Patient-Centered Care: Incorporate patient perspectives into clinical decision-making, particularly in relation to the changing terminology in liver disease (e.g., MASLD vs. NAFLD), ensuring more holistic and patient-centered care practices.
  8. Stay Current with Hepatology Advances: Remain informed about the latest advancements and trends in hepatology, allowing for continued improvement in clinical practice and patient care. These outcomes are designed to close the identified practice gaps, fulfill educational needs. Continued in "Supporting Documents" tab
