Overview

This three-day symposium is an intensive course designed for internists, primary care physicians, family practitioners, cardiologists, and other health care providers who encounter patients with various heart diseases. During the last few years tremendous amount of new research has become available regarding the role of newer drugs in the treatment of various cardiovascular conditions highlighting the importance of newer drugs in patients with diabetes, CVD, & heart failure as well as newer approaches for treatment of various lipid disorders and common arrhythmias (including the role of multiple newer drugs in these settings). During the 3 days of the meeting, all these new developments will be discussed in detail with special emphasis on the action of these newer therapeutic strategies on the underlying pathophysiology of disorders. The clinical relevance of common cardiovascular disorders in everyday clinical practice will be discussed. Emphasis will be placed on the recent practice guidelines and updates for common cardiovascular conditions. The entire course will focus on frequently encountered clinical problems in cardiac patients by practicing physicians. There will be state-of-the-art and comprehensive reviews on the evaluation and management of coronary risk factors, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, diabetes, coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease, as well as cardiac manifestations of COVID-19. Special focus will be placed on a review of traditional and emerging cardiac risk factors, highlighting primary and secondary prevention strategies. In addition, we will discuss updates and critical reviews of newer diagnostic imaging modalities, the use of newer therapeutic strategies based on recent clinical trials, and emerging interventional techniques for CVD. Lastly, topics will be discussed pertaining to reviews on recent clinical trials and practice guidelines in the management of hypertension, CAD, dyslipidemia, diabetes mellitus, heart failure, valvular heart disease, and the role of device therapy in arrhythmias and HF.
